Today, we had a get together for work at a restaurant I've never heard of. After spending all week trying to make a good impression on my new boss and co-workers, I showed up in a pair of shorts and a Star Wars T-Shirt. Turns out it was one of the fanciest restaurants in town. FML

You should of research / google the restaurant before going, or asked someone if it was casual or business casual dress.

Star wars is fancy. So I don't see the problem.

Why would you wear a Star Wars shirt to any type of work-related gathering?

Dress for the job you want not the job you have, and plus if you were trying to make a good impression why would you dress like that anyway I wouldn't wear that for a business occasion even if it was at McDonalds

That's why, when I go to an event that I'm not sure of the dress, I always bring my suit and keep it in my car. Just in case.

Anybody who knows about FML must surely know about Google.

You definitely deserve this if you didn't even think to ask someone what kind of resturant it was, or if you didn't just google it yourself. Be prepared for anything. You were not prepared.

You'd have impressed me if I was your boss. I don't see the issue here.

It takes no time to look up a restaurant and you can tell a lot just by seeing a menu or reading reviews. Unless it is a company picnic or bbq, shorts and a tshirt are never really appropriate. Sorry OP, but YDI on this one.

You couldn't have done a bit of research and the looked the place up on google before the meeting?
