Today, while correcting essays, I spilled ketchup on a student's paper. I managed to successfully turn it into a happy smiley face but when proudly looking at the result, noticed it was right next to the big "F" that I had graded it. FML

Positively reinforcing failure. Weird trick. Hope it works for you.

u graded the essay to be a f grade, u didnt grade IT a grade. word grade means gradient, level above or below, grade isnt the actual unit of measure chosen, so u cant say i graded it a grade, u can assign a grade unit to a grade. similar to saying i classed it an a class, no u didnt u assigned it to that class

Yeah, if you're going to try and correct someone's grammar, perhaps you should try making your comment parsable.

First, learn to construct a sentence. Second, pick up a dictionary. "Grade" is also a verb, as in "to assign a grade."

The poor paper. It's like it's being abused. First by a printer. Then by a pen. Then by ketchup..

I steer clear from assigning letter grades. Seeing an "F" destroys a student's confidence. Of course, I'm not sure what an F and a smiley face would do to a kid's confidence...

Why would you have ketchup around papers you were grading. It's so disrespectful. I had a teacher spill juice on all our papers. How rude! We then had to keep those stained papers to try and fix our grades. Just eat somewhere and mark somewhere else!
