Today, while talking to my parents, I dropped an ordinary drinking glass. After I apologized and cleaned the mess, they told me that they had decided that if I couldn't be careful at home, I certainly couldn't be careful on the roads. They took away my keys. I'm 19. FML

People make mistakes. You made a simple human mistake, apologized, and fixed it. You did nothing wrong. Some parents just have giant sticks up their asses and are begging for an excuse to be dicks.

Wow, that's what I call an overreaction. Seems to me like they might be taking your keys for some other stupid reason they're not telling you.

They're gonna take your car keys away for THAT? They were probably looking for a reason to make you stay home. Here's hoping you don't have to deal with that too long, OP.

I use my dad's spare car occasionally, as I drive so infrequently that owning my own car is literally a waste, if there is one never being driven, and I accidentally drove it into the garage wall at the age of 18. I was still allowed to drive it after. 5 years later and thats the worst (and only!) collision I have been in. I think your parents are being extremely overprotective, or just don't want you to drive for some reason.

Wow, well... Thats awkward, i cant believe they would take away your keys for such a small mistake, even after you fixed it as best you could. I hate when that happens

Damn, parents make the craziest conclusions sometimes. Hope they come to their senses soon!

though everyone has dropped a glass, I can see some possible wisdom in their decision. also, if it were a car you bought, they wouldn't be able to take them, so before you complain that they took your keys, maybe you should appreciate that they bought you a car in the first place.

What does dropping a glass have to do with unsafe driving? If parents took away their children's keys every time they ****** up in the slightest, then no one under 18 would be able to drive. We're only human. We all **** up from time to time.

15 - you arnt too bright of you see any wisdom in that logic

Considering you're over 18, I think that's technically illegal.

First, if they're paying for the car, it's their absolute right to controle it. Second, perhaps they were waiting for any excuse as they don't trust your driving. I would say, take it as a life lesson, be independent and controle ur own things

19 years with them and you're still good to go! ^_^

You dropped a glass it's not like you ran your car into the living room, everybody makes mistakes even parents talk about being overprotective. Try talking to them OP and if they don't give your keys back then try finding where they put them and take them back and this time make copies so if they take them again you have spares. Good luck OP
