Today, whilst in the last week of my notice period, I was instructed by my boss to tell six new employees that their jobs had fallen through before they'd even started. Later that afternoon, I received a call from my line manager. Guess whose own job has fallen through too. FML

I'm sorry OP : Hopefully you can find something better relatively quickly, that's really shitty.

Don't tell yourself that you've been fired.

You fell for your ass boss' trick. Double meaning.

Don't tell yourself that you've been fired.

That's not karma, that's bad luck. I hope you find another job soon.

Lots of company don't like to deal with firing people. MY husband's uncle used to be a contractor and his jobs was to travel the country to tell people that they were been laid off. He stopped doing it after a while because although the money was great, it's really a shitty job to do. That said, that was really a bitch unprofessional move of your boss.

It could be because the company is having hard times. But your boss cared about you touch and couldn't face you.

The manager's job fell through too?? Aw man!

It must be a cultural difference but I tend to think of "notice period" as the time between informing your employer that you are leaving the job and the day you actually leave. Is this something different in the United Kingdom?

You read my mind! I'm from the UK and as far as i knew, the notice period is the time before you leave. The time just after you start is a trial/probation period.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. It took me a minute to get it because my first thought was, "why do you care that your job fell through if you were about to leave anyway?"

I think OP means probationary period.
