Toxic masculinity

Today, my grandad smacked me on the back of the head, and told me to, "Act like a goddamn man and stop crying." It was at the funeral of my mum and sister, who both died in a car crash. FML
I agree, your life sucks 2 103

Damn. Im so sorry for your loss! You have the right to emotions and the right to fully express them.

Your grandfather is one hell of an asshole, OP. So sorry for your loss. Ignore the idiot, and take the time to mourn your family. And throw a hell of a party when *he* dies, because I'd say that's what "goddamn man" do.

Can't be 1 of 6 when breaking down. I can't call it a pleasure, but it is a duty and honor to carry a family member or friend to their resting place.

sounds like your grandfather is having a hard time seeing people cry (maybe because it could trigger him to cry when he doesn't want to cry infront of anyone else) you have every right to show your emotions. I wouldn't worry about your grandfather, he was probably taught that "men don't cry" and is now projecting it onto you. I am so sorry for your loss

He's a disgusting person. I'm sorry for your loss. You have every right to be sad, don't let him bother you in the process of recovering.

That funeral would need to add a 3rd casket if that was me. An uppercut was definitely warranted. I'm sorry about your mom and sis, OP.

I'm sorry for your loss. But sheesh, if there's anytime it's appropriate to cry, it's at the funeral of a parent or a sibling, especially when the loss was unexpected. Any chance you can cut your grandfather out of your life?

Sorry for your loss OP. Cry all you need to, it's a healthy way to get those emotions out. Your grandfather was probably taught that men don't cry/show emotion but society is catching up.

That's not masculinity. That's just toxic. What a dick. Sorry for your loss.

The rule 'men don't cry' comes from testosterone making it HARD to cry. If you CAN cry, you go right on ahead; it's probably worth the tears.
