Have you told them about your allergy, and is it mandatory for you to attend?
How bad is your allergy? I'm sure you don't have to go, especially considering your circumstances but maybe you could go without touching or eating anything there? Then again that would be pretty boring I guess :/
It would be pretty boring either way. Who the hell has a tomato festival?
I've heard of tomato festivals that throw tomatoes at people this could be one of them and that could cause a problem
OP is from Switzerland, so I feel that La Tomatina in Bunol (Valencia), Spain is a definite possibility; in that case, tomato throwing would definitely occur, so I don't think OP will be attending. (P.S. Sorry about the lack of proper accents in the Spanish names, I don't believe my phone keyboard has them.)
#31, if you hold down the corresponding letter, like 'n' you can get 'ñ' 'i' can get ì,ï,ī,î,í, etc.
Then don't go.. You'll miss out on the trip but at least you won't have any reactions. :)
They should have known from health records you were allergic. Try to ask them to change it original they can't ask for extra days off so you can go somewhere you want to go
Dammit autocorrect lol
Employers shouldn't have access to your medical records. Ever heard of HIPPA?
I've only ever been asked if I have any health issues that may prevent me from doing the job. I think it's illegal for an employer to ask you to go into your detailed medical record. And I don't think many employees with an allergy to tomatoes want to tell them that because, A. It is not something that should affect them at their job, B. It is such an uncommon allergy that some douche may do something to see if you're just faking (I've had this happen to me....), and C. Some companies might then implement a ban on said food product to ensure no issues can come of it, and who wants to be that guy? Maybe see if there is something else around the festival that you can go to, or just opt out. It sucks, but unfortunately life sucks sometimes :(
@25, there are jobs in which a tomato allergy would affect your work. I, for example, work in a Safeway produce department and a tomato allergy would definitely be something I should tell management. That being said, it seems like OP's job isn't any type of food handling job and therefore management probably didn't know about the food allergy.
Perhaps mention that
Oh no! Looks like you'll have to miss the awesome trip to the tomato festival. Maybe next year it will be a corn festival instead?
Depending on where it is, I'm sure you could still find plenty to do to entertain yourself. No sense letting an allergy ruin a free trip, right?
Plan your wardrobe accordingly. At least, with hazmat suits you don't have to worry about loads of laundry after your return.
They're trying to killemployees off. nezt year I bet it'll be at a peanut festival
You work at a farm and you are allergic to tomatoes?
You need to re-read the FML
