Too bad he's got cancer but I wouldn't call him a friend if he reacts that way. On the other hand, depending on the type of phone you're using, you can change the settings so you get notified only when phone numbers you know try to reach you. He also kind of deserves it since he should've called you when he didn't get a response to his text. I mean, it didn't cross his mind something bad could have happened to you too ? Why people are always so selfish ?
Don't worry. He'll be ghosting everyone soon enough.
Your friend with the incurable cancer diagnosis is in their own world of fear and suffering. They may not be thinking and feeling “normal”. I was diagnosed with cancer but my diagnosis was early enough that it could be treated and I am in remission. This news was devastating for your friend. It’s not your fault this happened to your friend or that you were being so bombarded by spam texts so you turned your phone notifications off. Apologize to your friend, preferably in person that this happened and explain how it happened if they are important to you. It’s not your fault they got this devastating news, but they need a good friend now. Now and in the future - It’s really easy to selectively block phone calls and texts from spammers as I get them on my smartphone. I do that all the time. While the occasional new spam text from a new number will come through, that has greatly diminished the number of spam calls and texts I get without turning off all notifications.
At least they can't hold that grudge for very long
sorry this happened to you and sorry about your friends diagnosis. depending on your cell phone provider you can call to have the spam texts blocked or it cab be a setting on your phone.
