Today, I discovered that when my doctor said my new medication "may cause sensitivity to sunlight" what he meant was "sit in total darkness during the day or your skin will feel like its burning off." FML

I hate to break this to you but I think your doctor may have turned you into a vampire.

The medication just made you a vampire. I'm sorry OP, hope you don't have to take the medication for way too long. Edit: I see the person above me just beat me to it

That probably isn't what he meant. You are probably reacting extremely to the medication and you should tell him. This isn't like the 'this may hurt a bit' stereotype. With possible side effects, slight sensitivity should be slight sensitivity - and if it isn't, you need to tell him.

Same thing happened to me few summers ago. Was given a prescription... had no idea it would cause severe sensitivity to the sun, & the Doctor never mentioned it either. Wore sunscreen like usual but forgot a small spot on my hand and ended up with a severe burn. Went back to the dr for follow up apt and dr said "oh yeah, that can cause sun sensitivity"....REALLY?! Thanks for the warning a$$hole... I then was prescribed a special cream for the burn... >:/

Hopefully once you go off the med- if that is an option- your skin will stop over reacting to sunlight. I can't go out in the sun for more than 3-5 minutes without my body having an allergic reaction to the sunlight. Which... Complicates life a fair amount.

I legit have the exact same problem. I feel ya pain buddy.

I'm literally allergic to the sun. It's not cute, it's not fun. It's even worse as a black person because other black people don't understand why I'm covered from head to toe in eighty degree weather. It's so annoying. Hopefully your doctor can prescribed you something different to help. Best of luck, OP.

As others have said, go back and tell your doctor about the severity of your sensitivity. Everyone reacts differently to medication and its possible there is another option for treatment that won't be such a pain.
