vaderfc tells us more.
OP here. first some bits i had to cut out for lack of room. i had just been dropped off at my truck as id stayed at a relatives house the night before so it was midday just before starting a return shift at truck rest stop and the "didnt bring my debit card" was entirely my fault as i hadnt checked in my rush to leave as id been running late id already got quite far when id realised id left it behind, also a sunday afternoon so no banks open to get a replacement card....turned out a happy ending though as i remembered i had hidden an emergency 20 in a compartment of said truck. Lesson learned i have a emergency kit with a credit card and cash just incase of attack of the birds has a sequel.

a motorway rest stop, surely? or were you also not going to pee... ?
Not sure who you bank with but most bigger banks have offices in certain cities where you can get a new debit card right then and there in minutes.
Honestly why dont you have your card. on another note this reminds me of years ago when my dog got me, i was so pissed. she has a tendency to bark at door when visitors appear. i was only one at home so i had to check. normally i wouldnt care but i was getting annoyed so i went to check. this of course happened right after i made some ramen for din din. i left my bowl on end table next to couch. as i opened the door i leaned out looked everyway and no one. next thing i know i hear some clink clink noises coming from the couch... of course the dog was in my bowl of ramen with her collar thing hitting my ceramic bowl of ramen.... i was livid.
The thing I don't understand, besides not bringing the debit card, is why didn't the OP bring more food? Even if the birds didn't pounce on his lunch, was he not going to eat for the next 14 hours?
Birds - 1, Human - 0. I think the birds have done this before.
You got Venmo?
The NZ law dictates that you can't drive for longer than 14 hours, which includes 2 half hour breaks...I work for a haulage company and I call bullshit
As a fellow commercial driver I'm shocked really. None of my co-workers nor myself when I did long hauls ever leave home without at least a $20 in our pockets just in case. We did have work gas station cards and credit cards but those were only for gas or if we were really unlucky for tows or repairs that were needed along the way. Because some times the services require cash and if they do our company reimburses the person when they get back

Aww, that stinks. Unfortunately I have to say YDI because on a 14 hour trip you only took $10-$20? with u. What if u had an emergency? Like this? At least bring some extra cash next time if u don't want to bring a card with u.
you should always have meal replacement bars in your vehicle. what if you get stuck somewheres or forget your lunch or have no where to stop and your starving. always best to be prepared.
