Today, I realized I've been acting very paranoid lately. I was mugged a few weeks ago, so I've been nervous. I've been holding my hands in my pockets and looking around on my way outside from work. Apparently, that's grounds to arrest someone under suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon. FML

Today, I had to admit that I desperately need anti-anxiety medication. Apparently, when you walk around a grocery store avoiding eye contact and generally acting "sketchy", management will call the police on you, who will then pat you down to be sure you aren't shoplifting. FML

Today, I got stopped at the bank by security for carrying a weapon and threatened to call the police. I had to prove my “metal stick” was not a weapon. I'm partially paralyzed in one of my feet and have to walk with a cane. FML

Today, as I walked into the bank, I tripped and bumped into a security guard. He thought I was assaulting him, so he pinned me to the floor and called for backup as he held me at gunpoint. FML

Today, I was at work when two sheriff's deputies walked in. They asked me my name and when I told them, they asked me to turn around and they cuffed me. They told me I was under arrest for robbery. Turns out I was mistakenly IDed, but now every one at my job thinks I'm an armed robber. FML

There is just one thing that I'll probably never understand... If USA has such rigorous laws, and cops who are so paranoid that they'll find you suspicious if you even breath louder, how come there are still the highest criminal ratings there?

If you're worried about being attacked walk with your hands OUTside your pockets. It's harder to fight back if your hands are stuck in your pockets when someone grabs you from behind. Also walking with your hands out of your pockets exudes more confidence. Keeping your head high and being obviously aware is one of the best defenses you have against being picked for a mugging.

Wow. That really sucks. Everyone is saying "YDI for looking suspicious" and shit, but think. OP was recently MUGGED and then got taken down and arrested by some cops. FYL OP. That sucks.
