OP...you totally deserved to get fired. You should do a job where nobody has to depend on you.
That sucks, you don't deserve that, the stupid parents who let their toddler go underwater without them noticing deserve it!
If it were my kid drowning and you were being a b*tch with a charlie horse, you'd have got a whole lot more than a shoe thrown at you. Stop whining about being fired. You deserved it
your supposed to stretch before saving toddlers!!! Gosh!! when will you learn!!!
is anyone here an actual lifeguard?! these comments are ridiculous! from one lifeguard to another (and to everyone who has a million opinions and zero facts): The safety of the lifeguard comes first. You learns that first thing first on the first day of training. You do not attempt a rescue when you yourself are at risk of drowning, harming yourself, or endangering your health. If the Charlie Horse was actually that bad, this guy/girl would not have been able to fight through it enough to rescue the kid without drowning themselves. Then you've got a double drowning on your hands. And I seriously doubt any lifeguard in their right mind would have actually stalled unless it was a legitimately terrible Charlie Horse. Which means it must have been so bad that he/she could not have preformed their duties and would have just made the situation worse. So seriously, everyone with a million opinions needs to just shut up. Also, with that being said: the OP still deserves to be fired. Why? Because during training we learn how to deal with preventing cramps like that by constantly drinking water and getting enough potassium. There is no excuse for you to get a cramp that terrible if you had been doing what you were supposed to be doing and staying hydrated. So no, they should not have ignored something that bad and endangered themselves, but yes, they completely deserved to be fired. But look on the bright side dude: it's September, the pools are closing, no one will remember this next summer so just get a job at another pool. You've lost the last two weeks of pay, max. Not a big deal.
i am a lifeguard and i still think he deserved it because it couldve been prevented. if he was seriously injured, then he should have called over another guard for assistance. also, if he entered the water properly [they teach you that in lifeguard training also] he could have prevented straining himself and would have been able to rescue the toddler.
ok dude from california i totally agree. there r reasons to b fired. and the fact that u didnt take neccesary precautions that u knew u should have taken could b one of those. on the other hand i dont think that old lady should have hit u. and again to the dude from california obviosly u know ur facts and i also agree that these comments are completely ridiculous. when someone posts that they got fired it is not the page to start a stupid argument about where u come from and what makes u stupid. and to whoever posted this it sucks that u got hit. and fired. but next time just remember to b more careful. and it is a bright side cause u wouldnt have been able to work soon anyway
lol
lol you deserved to be fired man you should know all he proper forms and stuff being a lifeguard and all.. plus you failed to do your job

That's unfair. Obviously you were making an attempt to save the child. People suck.
Are you kidding me? It's a major safety issue. If OP didn't either: a) prepare for work by stretching to prevent cramps [knowing that the job requires sitting for long periods of time], or b) keep moving through the pain until after rescuing a child, then OP should not be a lifeguard.
