Could have just said that as a defense mechanism because you just split with him? He would have split with you if not, surely? Unless you're clingy and he couldn't be bothered with the 'please get back with me' stuff. I don't know but FYL

Don't see the problem - You broke up with him so it's not like you have to be around him anymore. There are 2 possible reasons, though, as to why he said it: 1) He's a major pussy and was waiting for you to break it off with him because he doesn't like confrontation. 2) He was trying to act tough and throw you off guard even though he probably very much cares about you.
