Because reasons

Today, while on the highway, a guy in a truck sped up to pass me. He was hauling a trailer, which hit me and ran me off the road. I called the cops and followed him all the way into town, where the cops pulled him over. They let him go without even a ticket, because, "He didn't know he hit you." FML

A sane police officer would give him a ticket anyways for reckless driving.

Filthy pigs. I didn't know I was speeding but I get a ticket

just another reason to dislike law enforcement.

I believe you mean when law enforcement takes bribes or plays the race card. They, however, keep you and all the rest of us safe and help out when we are in danger. They put their neck on the line for you, I, and the rest if us, be lucky they are around.

What?! No! That's bullshit! Call the news and report the police and I hope you got the guys info so he can pay for your shit.

Sometimes the cops cant do anything. Not all the time can there be a ticket written when they didnt see what happened or have proof of whos fault it was. And it could have been the trailer and not either of the drivers, empty trailers like going all over the road because they weigh nothing. Contact insurance and they will pay for it, simple as that. News wont give a shit fyi.

not everyone will get a ticket for being involved in a crash, did the driver do something negligent / reckless. As long as a crash report was done, your insurance company will be satisfied.

yes the driver did something negligent, he changed lanes recklessly and could have caused someone to get seriously injured. If OP had died, that would have been vehicular homicide even if the bastard didn't know he did it. The guy deserved a ticket, on top of that most insurance companies want the cops to denote who was at fault before they pay anything to either party.

It'll still get written at fault of the guy in the truck. Before you go crazy about how he was reckless, do you know if OP didn't speed up or do something else stupid?

Just record the guys license plate / insurance and secure a copy of the police report. That way your insurers can process your claims and establish fault. Not every traffic violation will result in a legal penalty, but you should be sure to cover your bases for insurance claims.

he must be related to the doctor from where I'm from. a few years ago he hit a girl than took off. when he went to trial for her murder he claims he didnt know he hit her.. the sob was found not guilty but was guilty on the dwi. he free now. .

An FML that really falls under the trope "Cops Are Useless".

have you ever towed a trailer, they are usually either heavy where you may not feel the thump of hitting something and if the cop couldn't prove the driver knew he hit something he may have not been able to write a ticket.

Finally someone else who understands what it's like to pull a trailer. Unless the car hitting the trailer hits it really hard, like to a point they aren't driving away, a really heavy trailer isn't going to transfer that to the truck, if it does it'll feel like a bump in the road. If this was a Semi like most people seem to be assuming it is, chances are he won't ever feel it.

Sue those pigs. Did you get badge or car number?

Thats the problem now, sue this sue that. SHUT IT! Just because you have a problem and someone cant help you out doesnt mean you sue them. Just because the 16 yearold kid at mc donalds gives you a size fry to small and forgets the straw do you sue them? Its a problem for the insurance, not the cops.

That sounds like, "sorry, I didn't know I hit your 3 year old child, I guess that isn't vehicular manslaughter then."

Have you ever driven anything with a heavy trailer? Unless you actually see the impact you will not feel it, don't be comparing it to hitting a kid, it makes you look stupid.

Jesus christ. If you have ever driven with a loaded trailer through populated areas, the truck or car cant stop on a dime. If you slam on the breaks infront of a loaded trailer, it jackknives. And the kid running out in the middle of the road, sorry but if he gets hit thats his fault or the parents fault for not keeping an eye on him. Trucks dont stop like a little malibu or prius, so even tho the truck hits its breaks they might not come to a stop for another 700 feet or more. And futher, adding the kid thing was totally irrelevant.
