Booze 'em young

By ChiefKoala - This FML is from back in 2016 but it's good stuff - United States - Harriman

Today, whilst in church, my brother's Sunday school teacher asked him what he loved to drink, to which he replied, "Beer." We have no idea why he said that, and the church is still talking to my parents. FML

So actually, this is my FML, but i didn't know if it would let me do a follow up since I have a different user name. So now to tell the whole story. My brother was very young and my family isn't big on alcohol; the most they drink is during the holidays when they're with family. Anyway, The church basically exiled us because they thought we were all raging alcoholics. I just heard mom telling the story and thought i would post it. it goes to show that kids really will say the darnest things haha. He's 13 now and I'm 21, so now he knows what beer actually is, and definitely doesn't say that's his favorite drink.

Wow what a nice Church. How very Christian to kick out people based on some silly thing a kid said. Clearly your family is better off without them.

"I remember my first beer... I was 4 years old and.." Gonna be a good story one day

Doesn't he know that the only correct answer is the blood of Christ???

no need, just salt and burn the brewdemon.. Its legit.

I'm sure he has to be young. My brother did something similar when he was like, three...I think. Only it wasn't in church. My mom remembers it quite well, but I was young too so i don't remember it. I just remember her telling the story of it.

I'm confused. Why did you add that the church is still talking to your parents then?

#26, the FML has to be in the "Today" format, so I assume that, on the day it happened, the church talked to them about it for a long while. The part about the church still talking to them about the situation stresses the idea that they were definitely very concerned about the brother's family life and such.

Wow, some church. You should come to my church, because we laugh off the "Kids say the darndest things" moments.

You are way better off without that cult. Especially if they act that way. Damn psychos.

I apologize on behalf of whatever church your going through As christians we aren't supposed to do that We are supposed to do what we can in respectable boundaries Not exile people who need help Not necessarily saying you need help OP but thats what we are supposed to That church you went to sounds like it was run by the type of idiots who would hold signs saying God hates fags which he doesn't He doesn't like what they do but he loves them still

...and they tell you it's all about love and kindness, yet they ******* excommunicate you because of what a kid said. That's hypocritical. It's better to not go to church at all than have one that is full of judgmental bigots.

Wait so you're 13-year-old brother knows what beer tastes like why?

Most of the churches I've been to a statement like that would have had the place filled with laughter. I have my own issues with Christianity and the church, but not all churches are like that, they can be nurturing, joyful places too.

Sounds like something the Mormon church would do, speaking as an exmormon

@40 She didn't say her brother knows what beer tastes like, she just said that he knows what beer is.

Sorry about that. Hope you guys still laugh about it

Young humor is not appreciated in the church, it seems

#43 I was thinking the same, as someone who still shows up to Mormon social events. OP, that sucks. It really does. It's disgusting what organized religion will sometimes do to a family...

Yeah, my church is the same way. Sometimes whenever a kid says something snarky, the minister will find a way to basically say "well you're not wrong"

Such stiffs! Kids say dumb shit like that a lot. People shouldn't always take it so seriously.

Technically, **** your parents' life not yours. But I guess FYL too.
