As long as you get a raccoon that's been hand-raised and you're prepared for the fact that they're naturally destructive (you can take care of their aggression by - gasp! - getting them fixed), you can manage it as a pet just fine. They're high-maintenance, sure, but so are horses, and PLENTY of people have those. If the reason you can't have one is because you live somewhere where they're not allowed...well, there's ways around that, too. Plenty of people in California own ferrets, and they're illegal there.
But they are so cute! xD
They look like little robbers!
WEEEIIRRDD I just watched a TPT thing about raccoons. Japanese people got obsessed with raccoons in one point in history and imported a crap-ton of them, then realized they sucked as pets and put them out into the wild. Then the raccoons started gnawing away at the 1000-year-old Buddhist temples. Whoops.
Actually, raccoons are pretty great house pets. Willie's mom on swamp people has one.

Aww but why not? He's learning responsibility
Well, why the hell not? Raise them from cubs and they're just as amiable and loving as any other slightly-less-than-common pet.
