Cheating cheater

Today, my boss's son is training to take over my job as head translator, after having convinced his dad that he's fluent in Spanish, and that my skills suck. I soon walked in on him using Google Translate on a legal document. My boss refuses to believe me. FML

...Google translate isn't even all that accurate. I was once texting a 'friend' and decided to translate a phrase to a foreign language and send it to her. It was supposed to say "You're mean. You think punching me is funny. I don't like you.". My 'friend' translated the phrase back into English also using google translate. Apparently it had translated to "You are meaning. I think if you punch me, you is interesting. I do not like you." ...yeahhhhh.

Find a new job, quick. Using Google for legal documents; that's rich! I wish I could see that.

Google Translate on a legal document? Wow, don't bother to get evidence, get a new job. This company is going down...

OP, like all the guys above, I'm saying you gotta go and try for a new job elsewhere. Working under your current boss will only be mental torment for you. Good luck.

Finding a job can take months if you don't have good references, though!

It doesn't prove anything. A translator can use Google Translate to see some better variants, synonyms etc. There is no crime in using it. As a translator I do usually use Google Translate, or search for some terms to better understand them etc. You are simply too angry on him. But his use of Google Translate doen't make him a bad translator. PS. No, I do not translate to - or from - English professionally.

Most of the time Google translate uses basic words, though.

PS. And when you have a VERY big text, you may use a machine translation just not to type a lot of text. Sometimes it's easier (and faster) to edit machine text, however crooked it might be, than typing all the same long words. Machine translation enginges usually set in the text correct words, but with wrong grammatical connections between them.

Just let his son do his thing. I'm sure his father will be begging you to come back sooner or later.
