Clampdown

By Anonymous - This FML is from back in 2011 but it's good stuff - United States

Today, I accidentally clamped my hair straightener down on my ear. Eleven hours later, it still feels like I have a burning, swollen fireball hanging off the side of my head. FML

I burnt the top of my ear with my old straightener because the plates were exposed on the side. Yea, that piece of shit went in the garbage and I got a new one. I feel your pain!! FYL!

because you aren't icing it... if you don't ice it, yeah it will hurt for 11 hours +. I burn myself all the time with kitchen equipment and my hair straightener... yes I do own one and I'm a guy. I burn myself by accident like you, but I work in the heath industry as a nurse, and my dad is a doctor... ICE IT! The heat is always there if you don't ice it, it's just burning your skin right now. btw... put lotion on it aswell, it also helps to reduce heat, but ice works the best.

A male nurse with straightened hair... That's just too easy...

Hey there is nothing wrong with a male nurse and some guys need a straigtener although I suggest a haircut. But if your going to have long hair at least keep maintenance hygiene is important.

my hair is pretty short. It's not down to my shoulders, just below my ears, and it flips out, and hygiene wise, I wash it of course. Yeah I'm a nurse... good paying job. But she needs to ice it, I've burnt myself on my straightener before, it does suck, but ice should always be a first thought if she burns herself again. I was just saying to her, from a nurse's point of view, and my education on burns, she needs to ice it right away. My dad treats burns all the time. I'm a Pediatric Nurse, so I do this stuff too.

Ummm. No DO NOT PUT ICE ON IT. This guy ^^ is NOT a nurse if he is suggesting ice. My god, I'm just a teenager and I have enough common sense to not put ice on it. YES, you should cool the burn, but don't put ice on it. the Mayo Clinic even supports it : Don't use ice. Putting ice directly on a burn can cause a burn victim's body to become too cold and cause further damage to the wound. Don't apply butter or ointments to the burn. This could cause infection. (IE: DONT USE LOTION!) Don't break blisters. Broken blisters are more vulnerable to infection

Nursing is a great job and it pays well and you will never ruin out of business nurses are always in need and actually nurses do more than doctors depending on what floor you work. ICU nurses do more doctors just usually prescribe the mess and nurse is the one that takes care of the patient.
