OP's comment specifically says "rookie". That would imply that the rookie status was known. In martial arts, that's something you would say and do for a rookie to show them the ropes about a new martial art, or any hobby that's competitive.
Well, there is truth in the saying "the bigger they are, the harder they fall." The only thing being bigger gives you is reach. But, being bigger also gives your opponent a bigger target.
