She sounds like she belongs in a padded room...
"I've been to New York, which is right across the border and should not be a surprise to anyone." "STFU YOU'RE SUCH A LIAR, UNLIKE BRAD PITT WHO TOTALLY GETS ME"
That sounds like a very specific mental disorder to me. You should suggest that she get some professional help. Things can go south pretty fast even if she seems to be functional now.
It is an actual mental disorder, but it's been my experience that people with mental disorders aren't going to get help if someone else suggests they do. This woman's only going to get pissed and provide "evidence" that Brad Pitt really is speaking to her through his movies and interviews, or just shut OP out entirely.
You can't diagnose a mental disorder from just one symptom no matter how specific the symptom is. A lot of conditions can present with delusions. Suggesting that she get help is better than not doing anything.
I believe you were the one who suggested, ergo armchair diagnosed, this coworker? And take it from someone who's lived with a borderline personality, saying nothing until the mentally ill person brings up the fact that might have a problem first is usually the way to go. OP's coworker is a lot more liable to lash out at either OP or herself than get help. Unless the person is actively harming themself or others, you can't make them talk to a professional, and most don't want to do that unless they recognize the problem entirely on their own.
This is a person you shouldn't be talking to.
I might be wrong, but this sounds like schizophrenia to me. Not that there's anything wrong with having it, I just hope she doesn't get worse and has to live in fear due to hallucinations.
I think she's been having too much to drink while at work. Next thing you know she will be saying Barney is a real dinosaur and she going into battle as the drunk power ranger
Don't worry about the crazy ones. Just make sure they don't know where you live.
