Customers from hell

Today, while at my job, a couple became angry with me because I charged them for an extra ranch they'd ordered, as I'm supposed to. When I explained how it says in the menu how any additional sauces are an extra charge, she said nastily, "That's okay, we'll just take it out of your tip". FML

You should have told her she's lucky you didn't charge her for the spit that would be in her food.

I hate people who act like you should be so, so grateful for their tip.

in a perfect world, tipping doesn't happen and wages are higher

Nah. Serving is pretty fun as it is, just wish people would realize that if you can't afford to tip, you can't afford to eat out. Kind of like buying a car. Just because you can make the payment doesn't mean you can afford it

Some places in the UK have tried to enforce the "a tip will be added to your bill" without you asking for it, and I avoid those places. If I receive shitty service, they're not getting a tip. Waiting on people is better money here than retail jobs usually, and you're not allowed to accept anything given to you by a customer in retail.

Oh #42, so you also throw extra 10% onto the table to the dealer, because he is nice to you presenting the cars? Or do you rudely assume he is getting it from elsewhere?

Where I live, tipping DOESN'T happen and wages ARE higher. Means there's less of an incentive to be nice to customers, but people tend be nice anyway, so it's mostly alright.

I agree. In the places where there's no tipping but wages are higher, everyone is happy. The waiters and waitresses are usually happy because they're getting paid as they should and they're not worrying about if they're going to make enough for rent that night. Makes sense to me. I really wish the states would do that! In Canada we have tipping, and everyone tips, but the staff is also paid more money and tips are a bonus so they're not relying on tips to survive.

@93, I don't really agree with you. I find that people treat you better if they hope for a tip at the end. In many places I've gone to in Europe I find that the staff isn't as nice; even in expensive restaurants. So even though they get paid more, the service isn't as good. Of course, there are places with great service but in my opinion it's not the norm.

The thing is with any restaurant you need to be nice to the server. They have your food before you and you don't know what they did to it

The kind of customers that think they're right even when they're wrong..

And that's when you spit in her food...

Considering they've seen the bill, I'm assuming they're done eating.

People should really stop being mean to restaurant people. They're just doing their job

Over ranch dressing.... Come on people.

People believe they're entitled to a lot more than they actually are. They should express the concerns to the people that can affect a change not the people that carry out that direction
