Customers from hell

Today, while at my job, a couple became angry with me because I charged them for an extra ranch they'd ordered, as I'm supposed to. When I explained how it says in the menu how any additional sauces are an extra charge, she said nastily, "That's okay, we'll just take it out of your tip". FML

You should have told her she's lucky you didn't charge her for the spit that would be in her food.

I hate people who act like you should be so, so grateful for their tip.

Maybe they'd like to wear that xtra ranch dip. On their heads.

Haha. Eric Forman's attempts to save himself are hilarious.

At an old job I hated charging people extra for the sauces, because it seemed unnecessary to me, but my managers demanded that I do it. Usually in that situation I'd apologize and explain that it wasn't my rule, it was just the restaurant's policy. Most understand if you politely explain that the servers don't make the rules and are just trying to follow them, but some can still be really rude about it. I'm sorry, OP.

This is why the tradition of tipping needs to stop all together. Giving the customer the power to pay or not pay your salary is wrong. A minimum wage should apply to everyone, not to everyone except wait staff.

If only there were a Government website that explains that if the base pay plus tips don't add up to the federal minimum wage per pay period, the employer has to top it up.

I think that, after high school, everyone should be required to work in the service industry for one year. Everyone would be much more respectful and much nicer to each other.

Technically, tips shouldn't even exist. Companies need to actually pay their employees.

I both agree and disagree with this. YES, workers should not be dependant on tips for their regular salary, but NO because a tip is still a nice way to reward good or extra service (but it should not be taken for granted).

This reminds me of customers at my first job as a kid. That job made me appreciate and treat food service workers kindly.

You should have said "Thats fine (however much the sauce costs) isn't a big deal to me" with a huge smile on your face.
