Dane Cook? Is that you?

Today, I had to slowly explain to my brother why his relationship with a just-turned 18 year-old would be inappropriate. According to him, they’ve been “dating” for two years now but “haven’t had sex or anything.” He’s 39. He got mad at me for calling him a pedophile and smashed my glass table. FML

Tbh, I don't trust his word that they didn't have sexual relations. Him smashing things speaks of a guilty conscience. Even if they didn't have sex, he probably kissed and/or groped her. Most pedos know that sexual activity with a kid is wrong. What state does he live in? In some states, 16 is age of consent (unfortunately). Some even 17. If the age of consent is not 16 or if she was 15.5, he could be charged with statutory rape, and he should. He's a degenerate sexual predator that should have glass smashed over his skull and be castrated. Creppy SOB. **** that girl's life the most. Poor thing got groomed. Maybe talk to her about it and talk some sense into her or report your brother.

Hebephilia is a sexual preference for children in early adolescence, between ages 11 and 14. The concept is distinct from pedophilia, which is marked by a sexual preference for prepubescent children, rather than those who have finished puberty and entered adolescence. Ephebophilia refers to an attraction for older adolescents around 15 to 18 years old. But yes, she was definitely groomed and whether there was illegal intercourse depends on state age of consent laws.

A pedophile is someone who is attracted to prepubescent children. I don't think that applies here.

You are correct. My father was distinctly pedo and as a survivor, we're taught the differences in therapy.

Go no contact with your brother, he's unstable. Get the police involved and send him the bill for your table.

Just like the old saying goes: "People who live with glass tables shouldn't throw sexual deviance labels."

Tell the girls parents. Let them figure out how to handle it. He’s just using her. Technically yes there are a lot of people who are correct pedophilia is pre-pubescent, that’s not the whole point of the story. The point of the story is that his brother possibly had a sexual relationship with someone who was under 18 at the time. Let the girls parents know that that is a possibility.

Is anyone going to mention they mostly standardized age-of-consent at 17 years? Most states (including where I live) all came in-line in 2012 (I believe) where 17 was age of consent. Many states had to raise their’s from all the way down from 14, and a few dropped theirs from 18. Secondly, Hugh Heffner never got crap scorned on him the way everyone here is piling on OP’s brother. This is a total double standard. What about those that comment then head to pr0nhub and look up “barely legal” videos? I swear, people have the weirdest issues that involve double standards. And while OP’s brother may not morally be in line, legally, he most likely isn’t breaking any laws, unless it started at 16. This is just looking from a legal perspective and noticing the double standards.

No one probably will because most people don't believe that a 17 yr old can think for themselves and like an older person. He should not have encouraged the relationship before 18 but the 17yr old is not ignorant.

Sounds like grooming was involved
