My thoughts exactly! A love letter could also be to a parent, grandparent, sibling, or best friend. I imagine that is what the teacher intended.

At least your cat is probably going to enjoy the love letter. When I gave my cat a poem I wrote, he corrected the grammatical errors and wrote "Dumbass" in big, red letters across the whole page. Cats are so inconsiderate nowadays.
