Uh, you do realize you could have written from a fictional perspective? Do a little creative writing in the process? Do you think everyone in the class was writing serious love letters to someone? Is that what they do these days? Because I'm pretty sure all the assignments like that I can remember were supposed to be for a made up situation. Well, the instructor would usually say something like 'don't use a real person unless you want everyone to hear about it' and advise you to write it as a character, not as yourself.
My sister did the same exercise in french class and wrote to Winston Churchill because she could.
