No one is the “thief.” It’s not like they kept it.
The car wash is responsible for the damage.
As long as the mirror is still there and they didn’t hide it, you’re probably fine. It’s an easy fix to glue back on and you can generally buy a kit yourself. Most glue on to your windshield somehow and UB/weather can break it down. Car wash should fix it, but if not just give them crappy reviews and do it yourself. Now if the guy (or gal) who knocked it off panicked and hid the thing, the they did “steal” something, and tell them you’re calling the police if you don’t get it back. (Use their non-emergency number) Police probably can’t do anything (it’s really a civil suit, not a crime) but may be able to persuade them to fess up. Trouble is if you try and sue their asses the lawyer will probably cost more than the damages and it’s a net loss. 😢
