Today, a man came up to me and asked for a $50 bill in change. Being a good man, I said sure. I gave him the change and he gave me the $50 bill. After walking into Starbucks to buy a coffee, I handed the cashier my $50 bill. She called the cops. It was counterfeit. FML

Haha oh man that guy was clever. Sucks for you though. Hope you can find him and kick his ass!

Lesson learned: NEVER EVER change money for someone you don't know! Tell them to go to a shop or bank and change the money there. If they don't want to, you know why. Besides, if he was going to buy something with that money he would've had change automatically. No strangers need be involved. YDI for not using your common sense.

#30, apparently Starbucks does. #54, yes, but there's no reason to call the cops. You don't know how they acquired it. The only thing employees are required to do is confiscate the bill.

#7 way to hit it on the spot, never give change to anyone ESPECIALLY any amount over 20 dollars. and #30, no business is allowed to reject your US legal tender. All business must be able to break any bill.

I call bullshit, noone would call the cops on you like wtf they would just return the bill and say gtfo

Heart is in the right place, take no regret in what you did but do learn from it. Be suspicious when: 1. There are stores around yet the crook chooses to ask you for change. 2. The bill is larger than a 20. I normally say no and direct them to the nearest deli, store, newspaper stand. When people cross money, its hard to trust :P

That sucks. If you're downtown in a big city, you should've used better judgment. But if you were at a strip mall or something, you were just trying to be helpful. I hope the secret service believes your story.

You're a nice guy, but I hope now you learned that people can't be trusted. A valuable lesson for $50, don't feel too bad.
