Today, a man came up to me and asked for a $50 bill in change. Being a good man, I said sure. I gave him the change and he gave me the $50 bill. After walking into Starbucks to buy a coffee, I handed the cashier my $50 bill. She called the cops. It was counterfeit. FML

Haha oh man that guy was clever. Sucks for you though. Hope you can find him and kick his ass!

Lesson learned: NEVER EVER change money for someone you don't know! Tell them to go to a shop or bank and change the money there. If they don't want to, you know why. Besides, if he was going to buy something with that money he would've had change automatically. No strangers need be involved. YDI for not using your common sense.

Why would you not be suspicious that a complete stranger wanted you to change something for them?

Dang. This almost makes me scared to be nice. I probably would of done the same thing though if I had the change. Kind or naive? Or both? :/

i like how on this one people say YDI for trusting a total stranger, then on the previous one where the girl almost maced that guy trying to return her money, everyone said she was a bitch and not to be so suspicious, everyone is not out to get you.

HAHAHAHA. "We're surrounnnnded with IDIOTS."

OP, to answer your question, no a man did not come to you today and ask you for change for a $50 bill. He actually asked you for change for a $5 bill.

Sucks to be you, Never trust strangers.I would say YDI, but you did it out of good intention

I don't think you deserved this at all... I guess it's the price you pay for trying to do a nice thing =[.

Sorry, YDI. One thing you have to learn in society is that being nice usually does not pay off. Just as people on this site have talked about people begging for change driving off in a car minutes later, you've gotta be suspicious of people. It's hard to just tell them "no", but...hey, if you really don't want to tell them you won't, just tell them you don't have change for a $50. It wouldn't be entirely uncommon. And when I first started reading this, I was sure the guy was going to grab your wallet or something. That wasn't good planning on your part either, to be honest, but you skated on that. I still put FYL too, though. You shouldn't have broken a $50 for a stranger, but it doesn't make the fact that it was a counterfeit bill suck any less, and since you didn't counterfeit the bill and didn't know it was until you had the cops called on you, you don't deserve to go to jail.

You don't deserve it, but it should have been ******* obvious. People pull this shit all the time, that's why you don't talk to random strangers. Unless you're on omegle.
