Father figure

Today, I realised my step-kids never really thought of me as their dad, given that since their mother died 7 months ago, they haven’t visited me once, don’t respond to texts, or answer when I phone them. I’ve been totally abandoned by them, even though I’ve been their stepdad over 25 years. FML

I am sorry that you are alone. If you have been in their lives for so long, every time they see you, they will subconsciously expect to see their Mum.

Well, if their actual dad is still alive and available, I understand why they haven't thought of you as their dad, at the same time I'm struggling to understand why they cut all contact, assuming you've made an effort to be a loving and caring step dad for them.

I have step parents and active parents. I consider them all my parents since they all had a part in raising me. Very sad for him.
