I've have had? I wish I have have had. At least you gave it back.
At my library max fine is cost of book . I guess you havent been back since you stole the book. why now?
Well... You did have the book for quite awhile...
For future reference, the way out is to sneak the book back onto the shelf in its appropriate place, wait about a week, then come in and try to check out something else entirely. When they say you can't because of late fees, tell them you brought that book back already, and ask them to check for it. When they find it on the shelf, they can only assume you're telling the truth and cancel all fees.
This lad knows how to roll. Good stuff.
I'm 90% sure that the library can only charge you as much as the book cost.
That's why they have a night drop. In my experience, it's usually cheaper to keep the book and buy then a new one than pay the fine, not that I pay library fines anyway. Needless to say, I'm not a big public library user, although they have received a few new books out of my pocket.

Well you kinda deserve it for having the book for so long...
At least you did the right thing in returning the book.
