Generous tipper

By appleville - This FML is from back in 2009 but it's good stuff - United States

Today, a customer at one of my tables left his phone number and a smiley face on the credit card slip. I was completely flattered until I looked at the bottom of the slip and realized that he had left me a $0.26 tip. FML

I agree- call him up and bitch him out a bit. Do it from a pay phone so he doesn't have your number to harass you, but tell him that if he can't afford to tip he can't afford to eat out. If he stiffs you like that, it's actually costing you money- you get taxed on a percentage of the food you sell, because the government assumes that you'll get at least a 10% tip. Educate the fool!

And Code_Monkey, if she's a waitress (which I assume she is), then there is absolutely nothing wrong with her attitude. Waiters and waitresses make almost all their money from tips--their wages are next to nothing. It's also considered extremely bad form to tip less than 15%. So unless she is a truly terrible waitress, this guy is either clueless or incredibly rude.

He may have been short on money- I once only gave a £0.31 tip because that was all I had left. (Felt really bad after that)

And she could have been a really bad, if not attractive, waitress....

Every time i leave my number, she never calls. and i always leave 15%...

wtf #9?! is there a brain injury in your past?

Call him, make him take you out to dinner, and order the most expensive thing on the menu. Plus dessert.

The reason he tipped so little was to get you to actually call him. Whether it's to bitch him out, at least now you called and he can actually ask you out.

Ignore the people who try to insinuate that you're in the wrong for expecting a tip. Everyone with half of one active brain cell knows waitresses are expected to live off their tips. They're just being ignorant. Great story. :)

Maybe he assumed you don't have a cellphone and left you $0.25 so you could call him. :P

Speaking from a place where tipping is entirely optional: you guys have a weird system for paying your servers. o_O I agree with #14 tho :}

Even I'd they're complete bitches, leaving a tip is the right thing to do.

#35 - hadn't thought of it like that, lol. Also - coming from the UK: tipping is entirely optional here (due to national minimum wage), and 10% is the accepted standard, but over here we're grateful for anything.
