Sorry, that really sucks OP. I'm a nurse and for all those assholes who say the OP deserves it, please educate yourselves.. 1. You can get tested, but unfortunately, not all places test for herpes properly. Instead of doing blood tests, some clinics will do a urine test, which would only show up positive if the person is having an outbreak at the time. 2. Condoms do help prevent the spread of herpes, roughly by 50%. But that's just an average, it's really a case by case basis. If a guy has herpes on his dick, condoms would help, if he has it on his testicles, a condom wouldn't do anything. 3. Some abstain from vaginal sex and do oral instead. While it is rare for genital herpes to become oral herpes, oral herpes can very easily become genital herpes. And as about 70% of adults in the USA have oral herpes, so this is a likely possibility as well. You can do everything right but stuff happens. The OP is a woman and she is already at a disadvantage from that. Statistically, 1 in 4 women in the USA have genital herpes because it is just easier for them to get STDs. It's a shame that there is still such a stigma around herpes, it's by far one of the most common STDs (between 17-20% of adults have genital herpes), but people are still so awful about it.
