Grades go both ways

Today, I was scolding my 8 year-old son because he was getting bad grades in school. I told him that he should get straight "A"s like his friend Ceejay. He told me that comparing him to Ceejay was unfair. When I asked why, he said, "Because his dad is actually smart." FML

There's no need to compare to the other kids in the class. What if the kids parents do everything for him? Tell your child to do what they can do, don't push them to be something more than what they are. YDI. And #2, scolding doesn't necessarily mean hitting.

You don't compare your kids to other kids. It's unfair and incredibly rude to your child. If he's not getting A's, maybe something else is up. Maybe CJ's dad actually helps his kid with his homework? And your kid's 8 years old. They don't even get letter grades yet I don't think. You should be encouraging him.

Straight A's, when you think about it, are a bit unreasonable. C's are average.why is it so bad to get a C? I got A's and B's when I was in school, but I think that parents and teachers shouldn't be so hard on the students.

Never compare your kids with someone else. It's horrible and I absolutely hate it when my parents do that.

Okay. I think maybe YDI, OP for asking for straight As-the boy is 8! But i don't think there's anything wrong with wanting your children to get good marks. My parents were both teachers, and kind of expected it from me. But, some people (like me) get bad results if not pushed or motivated so in that respect, he has a point. Again comparing to my own situation, I find forcing competition (admittedly self-imposed) can actually help a person do better. But seriously, everyone. You need to chill your beans.

i feel sorry for your son. 8 years old and you're punishing him for not getting straight A's? he has a right to a childhood, back off and love him regardless of his grades.

Is your son's name "Timmy?" because "Ceejay" sounds a lot like " A.J"

Some people just can't get A's no matter how hard they try. I can't due to learning disabilities, even though I have the intelligence and memory needed.

Am I the only one that thinks this sounds like Fairly Odd Parents? Ceejay = AJ?

Scolding an 8 year old for bad grades? Did he color outside of the lines? The poor **** is less than a decade old, give him a ******* stick to play with and leave him alone. Idiots like yourself make me lose all hope in humanity.

Don't compare kids to their friends, don't you know that's how they get inferiority complexes?!
