Great story man, but…

Today, I was late for work and took a taxi. The driver told me he tried to commit suicide recently. I listened to him for 20 minutes, sat outside my workplace with the meter off. He charged me £5.80 and my boss gave me a warning for being late. FML

just know you did the right thing. you can't REALLY blame the boss tho, he's doing his job. Yea, its crappy, but just know karma owes you one and you only got a warning.

How did he get played by the driver if the meter was off? I don't get the point in telling us how much he charged you, since you clearly state the meter was not running after he stopped.

^ he saved the drivers life!

Well you became his listening ear though. Good thing.

You did a nice thing listening, he got it out in the open and will probably think twice about doing it again.

That's so kind of you. Non of that sounds bad. Maybe a little awkward or uncomfortable but all you received was a warning and it doesn't seem like you're broke from this experience. Good job :)

You did a good thing, but I voted YDI because you're actually whining about £ 5.80 and a warning...

By sitting and listening to that driver you could have given him a moment of "Wow, someone cares." And that moment alone could save his life. One day when you're at your lowest point someone you don't know will come out of who knows where and be willing to sit and listen. Consider yourself a hero because for all you know you could be one in his eyes.

I would have been like "ummm...I'm sorry but I had to go to work and I hope u feel better"
