hmm let me think here msn or yahoo messenger which most people have and webcams o look its the same thing

This sounds so much like my Mom- not really an FML though... My mom has sent a total of 1 text message in her life, and it was the most oddly constructed message ever. I'm sure if I tried to explain something like Skype to her, she'd cut me off halfway through the explanation with the same thing...It's too difficult to learn if you'll only be gone a couple months- I mean, c'mon, I have aunts and uncles that live halfway across the country, and my grandparents go most of the year without seeing them...what's the big deal, you grow up, you go out on your own...Deal with it.

This is simply an old lady who has missed the technology age. I've been overseas for over 12 months. My father has not been able to learn to email, let alone Skype. He finds it much easier to type a letter on his computer, print the letter, and mail it to me. It normally takes 2 weeks to get to me. There is nothing new in the letter by the time I get it due to things called telephones. He resently bought a new printer because he couldn't get the old one to work. He is a retail store salesperson's dream..........

If he/she wants to talk to his/her mom via Skype, who are you to judge? Just because you go for months or years without talking to your parents doesnt mean everybody else has to.

You must be a mommy's boy. I'd be happy to get away, an be fine with just talking on the phone.. what's with the need to see her anyways?

The truth is she probably believes that it's just too much hassle for the reward, even though the less technophobic know better ;)
