Today, my brother sent me an image by Skype, saying I really had to see it. I figured it was some kind of stupid joke, but I tried to look anyway. It wouldn't open. Turns out he thought he could just rename the ".exe" on a virus to ".jpg" and it would still run. My brother's a cretin. FML

If you have a descent. virus. protection program on you computer in the overall scheme. of this you should be fine.

she is fine. the file did not open because he had labelled a program as a JPEG. she probably was able to see the source code for the virus but thats it.

just because you can't open it doesn't mean anything. I know several people that have had a virus because of something like this.

again she is fine. viruses need to be triggered or executed. they are either hidden in files that when opened trigger the virus or are bogus files themselves. ops brother changed the file to a jpeg disabling the trigger function therefore no virus.

Probably copied and pasted a command onto notepad and saved it as an exe file. Anyone can do it.

-sigh- I don't advise opening anything he sends you ever. If he thinks a virus is a "joke" he has a messed up sense of humor.
