If she's willing to pay for it, you might as well do some research and make a decision. Two people in my family have had it, and have hugely different opinions on it. It's fairly safe, so far as major things go. You probably wont go blind or anything crazy. Minor things can always go wrong. I've heard that sometimes it doesn't work at all, though it did for both my family members. Personally, I don't think it's something I would do, but if the oportunity presented itself I would definitely give it more research before I made that decision.
