Something like once a month, I come from the original french website, VDM, to see how our English speaking counterpart, FML, is doing. That's exactly how I imagined a FML from the USA would look like.
Military service is not for everyone. You can get a lot out of it (which is what my uncle told me who spent his career in the USAF). And that can include paying for college scholarships under some circumstances. And that just might be Dad’s primary motivation… On the other hand there are definitely risks that active duty military deal with - Especially in a shooting war. That’s why we show our veterans respect - because of the service they did and the risks they bore… But at least for now, going into the military is voluntary and it’s the choice of the person going in and not their parents. It would have to get pretty bad (like WW3) before people are drafted and forced to take part. In any case it’s never up to the parents to force their son or daughter into the military. On the other hand, you’re only guaranteed free room and board with your parents until you are 18..,
