Today, I received a call telling me I had not gotten a job I would have been a perfect fit for. The hiring manager told me they "went in the opposite direction" and chose to hire someone with less experience, so they didn't have to pay them as much. She made sure to tell me I was still the better candidate though. FML

Sounds like you dodged a bullet there! Imagine what it would have been like working at a place like that - the company isn't willing to hire the right people so you'd be working with people who don't know what they're doing and they definitely wouldn't pay you enough for the pleasure of it!

see we need 30 years of experience while being alive for only 20+ years and we need to be the better canadiate with all sorts of degrees. yet when we have all this can still be over looked because companies love revolving doors more than stagnant doors

or keeping them like kicked at the knees

Sounds like the Seinfeld episode where George does "The Opposite." (Perhaps the greatest episode of the greatest show of all time.) "Instead of hiring qualified people and making money, we can hire crappy people and lose money..." Hopefully, you can go to work for a direct competitor and stick it to those idiots.

Translation - If you will work for us for much less pay, the job is yours. Don’t take the bait. Not only would you be taking less pay, you would always be up against the top end of the salary range for your job and never get a decent raise. You would have to be truly desperate to agree to that.
