They have a pattern, that is, if you yourself pass more time on certain websites, singing up for things, the computer will register that, and send you spam emails according to familiar things you have looked up before. Example, if you go online to buy dance shoes, you're going to look in a lot of websites about shoes for sale. some of those websites contain viruses which is what spam emails are part of. So when you're on an online social network example, and ad pops up somewhere on the screen, it's going to mostly be something close to what you have been looking at in the past. Juts like spam, where you get spam emails according to the past records of what you have cruised on the web. Think about it.
