my friends parents invite us all over for their daughters birthday to hang out and remember her, when she died 7 years ago, they do it every year.

this is the saddest thing i have ever heard... OP needs to get over it, its a couple hours to go and support someone that lost 3 children. anyone that doesnt have children wouldnt understand. my son is almost a year old now and i would be absolutely devastated if anything happened to him. i would definitely be grieving years and years down the road. you dont just forget something like that...

I don't care what kind of sob story you throw at me, the funeral marks the end of my acquaintanceship with anyone. Going to a birthday party for dead people is horrifying.

I think you should be more respectful they probably miss them and this is the one day that they can remember them with their friends and family
