my friends parents invite us all over for their daughters birthday to hang out and remember her, when she died 7 years ago, they do it every year.

I don't think they should have a birthday party but rather have a get together with friends to celebrate their lives and possibly celebrate the fact that they are doing well and life is a fragile thing and you shouldn't waste it.

@290 Your comment about his/her mother needing to face reality by saying that they are the mother of 9... Technically, they aren't. Two of them died. So they ARE *not* the mother of 9.

Just because a child is dead does not mean the mother (or father) is not a parent to them. They are still parent and child.
