Nervous laughter

Today, I went to my kid's band concert. She's 12 and in the advanced team. They were the first ones to play and they were so incredibly bad that I laughed. Really, really loud. I was escorted out of the recital. FML

Wow, way to encourage your kid and her self esteem Dad.

Sounds like you should learn some self control

YDI. Or maybe it was a blessing since you didn't have to watch the rest

As someone that never had any sort of encouragement from my parents about my hobbies when I was a kid: you're a huge ******* asshole, and you probably embarrassed her in front of the entire class. what are you, a teenager? grow up. that's your kid. support her.

F the kids life for having such an asshole parent! "YD to be tarred and feathered!" - yes, and stoned too!

You laughed at your own kid? What an ass.

Depend on what part of this makes it an FML, but I think he really couldn't help laughing and didn't in fact want to scar a bunch of children. I was in a actually in a similar situation once when a was watching an acting performance of this guy who liked me. I laughed the whole way through and I tried to stop myself, but my body just wasn't obeying my brain. It wasn't even that it was bad - he was actually really good - but his character was like eight years old and it was plain hilarious. To add insult to injury I was wearing his hat he'd given me when he was flirting with me. I never did see him after that...

This makes me so sad for your child :/

Wow shitty parent, advanced does not mean good. It's to encourage kids to get better while making them feel confident. When I was in elementary/middle school orchestra, each year meant "rising" a rank (beginner, intermediate, then advanced). Shows you never paid attention to your kid and encouraged practice (because she should be practicing atleast 30 mins a day if she was told by her teacher) YDI

I mean you coulda atleast tried to keep it at a chuckle! But I see where you are coming from. Don't label something "advanced" unless it really is. Telling somebody their good at something they suck at doesnt help them. Thats called lying to their face!
