New fangled technology

By notacashier - This FML is from back in 2014 but it's good stuff - United States - Brooklyn

Today, I used the self-checkout for the first time. I didn't see a slot for bills, so I tried to put them in the coin slot for a solid three minutes. There was a huge line behind me, silently judging. FML

YDI Wouldn't you know the difference between the size between a bill and a coin.

That's when you drop everything and leave without saying a word.

What did u do try to fold the bills a couple of times and wonder why they don't fit

I probably would have been belligerently judging you so take solace in silence

We've all been there. I've had people like you in front of me in lines before. I always ofter to help them out.

In case you jammed your bill in their coin slot, here's a cheerful moto: "Walk in, mess things up, walk out - like a boss!" :D If not, you should have tried looking for the card slot to swipe your cash in & if some mean person tried to correct you, you could have yelled, "I'm running this! Mind your own BUSINESS!!! ...Geez." :D

They should have at least told you were the cash goes

Happens to the best of us OP, don't worry!

Hasn't happened to me .. Just saying..

They normally have someone monitoring the self checkout. they should have helped you.

Have you been living in the stone age? How is today the first time using a self checkout....

Many people just don't like the idea of using them, and prefer going to a manned checkout. They are actually really easy to use without setting off the bagging alert. But many people don't have the patience, or the know-how, to use them properly and end up getting incredibly frustrated by them. Which of course, leads to the negative stories about their usability. So people avoid them to cut out the hassle. Not only that, but people don't like the mechanised replacement of staff.

I've had more bad luck with self check-out than good luck. Most of the machines are so sensitive! My husband used to be a cashier who was actually good at being a cashier, and we still have problems regularly.
