Today, I decided I would try this feature on my banking app which lets me deposit checks by sending a picture of it. The instructions say to rip the check after depositing. The deposit didn't work and now I've got a ripped up paycheck. FML

Bullshit. The banking apps that offer deposit that way tell you to keep the check for at least a week or more just in case it doesn't work.

You deserve it in this case. You should have waited a few days for everything to clear before ripping it up. There are some cases where they will need to see the cheque for whatever reason.

The instructions also usually say to wait 30 days before disposing of it.

Did you miss the part where it says wait to make sure the money was put into your account? My app even says keep the check for 3-7 business days just to double check.
