It may sound like a bull overused phrase, but beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. Once I was set up and I have to admit, after seeing her photos, I thought she wasn't really good looking. But I went anyway, because what do photos really tell you about a person. She looked exactly like in the photos, so the photos weren't from unflattering angles or whatever, but when I saw her face "live", she was full of expression and very very soon, I caught myself thinking - wow, she is so freakin beautiful. We went out for a while, every time I saw her I was more captivated with her, but it didn't work out due to different life goals and stuff like that. Still, it was a great life lesson on "beauty" for me.

I agree with you; once you know a person, their looks can dramatically change. My ex is good looking, but since I know he is an abusive, deadbeat dad, he is ugly to me. My current boyfriend is not the best looking guy, but he is the most attractive guy to me. Op-- this guy sounds superficial and you dodged a bullet early on.

I don't understand why people think they can say things like that and it won't hurt the other person's feelings. It's rude and unnecessary. He did not have to say that she was not pretty.

I'll fight you for her... no wait, I'm taken, nevermind. I do agree though, funny and smart makes a girl a lot more attractive. OP will find someone who isn't as shallow. In the meantime, carry a whiffle bat in case of shallow jerks.
