Even if he were factually incorrect on every specific issue, and I'm not saying he is, he's right about this. In most other countries, including so-called free countries, he (or you) could take a contrary view of the official government line and get his (or your) ass locked up, charged with an actual crime. Not marginalized, not de-platformed, not shouted down, locked up by the authorities for expressing a contrary opinion. Just the act your were engaged in - disagreeing online without fear of criminal penalties - is a strong argument supporting his assertion.

You're right, we aren't the best by any metric. And the other commenter who claimed we are, is full of shit. No, pretty sure you can't be jailed for expressing a negative opinion of the government in any of the countries that exceed us in other measures of freedom and general wellness.

There's no reasoning with nationalists, especially American. Be glad the trash took itself out by blocking you.

There used to be an old me titled “arguing on the internet is like running in the special olympics…”. At the risk of pissing of those who don’t have any humor, i’ll skip the rest. That said, it’s pointless to argue on the internet. They may be an idiot, but at the old addage, “it takes one to know one.” You aren’t going to win a conversation on the net and arguing is pointless and stupid.
