Welcome to the US. They can fire you for anything except one of the handful of protected classes (race, religion, ethnicity, age, etc.). This includes being pregnant. :-( Not all states are like this, but any state that is right-to-work is also right-to-fire-for-any-reason-at-all-with-zero-warning, too.

I skipped work some years ago, because I was in a car accident one night, spent five weeks in a coma and didn't come to work the day after, and my boss said they were irritated at me when I didn't show up and wasn't answering my phone, but he also said that as soon as they heard about the accident, it was regarded as valid absence.
