Today, I had to cover for a coworker who didn't turn up for work. He's always late for work and I was pissed off about having to cover for him again, so I said to my colleagues, "He better be either in hospital or dead." Turns out he was dead. FML

Today, as a CNA, I had to go through the belongings of a patient. His phone rang and I answered - it was his boss. As I explained, he cut me off and said to "drop the act" and "he better be there now or he's fired". He was pronounced dead-on-arrival. FML

Today, I got a heads-up that my boss suffered a death in the family, but was coming into work anyway. I thought he'd be depressed, but it seems he deals with grief with anger instead. I found that out when he yelled at me, threatening to rip my spine out my ass over a typo I made in a report. FML

Toxic workplace

Today, my subordinate didn't come to work. I called him several times, and it seemed like he just overslept, which has happened before. As I was filing the report about this, the police came to interrogate me because this guy took his life last night and blamed us in his note. I have no idea what I did wrong. FML

Today, I covered for my friend at work because he said he was having car troubles and was going to be late. Two hours into the shift, I got a call from my roommate asking why my girlfriend had moved out. Turns out, I'd covered my friend's shift so he could help my girlfriend move out behind my back. FML

Today, at work, I was about to close a big sale, when a coworker rushed over and said there was a call for me in the office. He heavily implied my mom had died, and I rushed out. After I figured out there was no call and that my mom was fine, he'd already stolen my sale and the commission. FML

Today, at my job as a hotel housekeeper, I accidentally entered the room of someone who hadn't left yet. To my horror, the man inside was having a massive heart attack. I just found out he passed away, despite immediate medical intervention. FML

Dude It's ok. People say stuff like that all the time. The odds of them coming true are very slim. It is understandable and they should not judge you for that.

Same thing happened to my old drug dealer (who I used to share a house with). A guy was late paying his 'tick' and we thought nothing of it because he usually showed up a couple of days late to get on again. Then we didn't hear from him for a few weeks and digger joked, 'He better be in hospital or dead'... turns out the cop cars we'd seen down the street the day before (and panicked about, thinking they were going to raid our house) were actually called down there to break into his flat - the guy had had a seizure or something from diabetes and died, and nobody found his body for two weeks, it was only when he got so behind on rent that his landlord called the cops to chase it up. We had no idea the dude was sick - if we had known, we would have gone to check in on him earlier and things might have been different. A horrible coincidence, but I guess it happens. Life sucks, don't feel bad.

i agree with those saying that it's coincidental that he said that. And people saying "YOU'RE SO MEAN" i'm sorry, are you morons psychic? did you know that this guy was dead? NO. you did not. so stop giving this person a hard time. you've probably said it 138842 times in your life. it just so happens this one time a joke turned into reality. god, people are ignorant. but i'm sorry for your loss! Even though he wasn't there a lot lol.
