Occam's razor

Today, I called tech support because my new computer wasn’t turning on. After a long while on the phone, they finally asked if it was plugged in. It wasn’t. I spent way too long troubleshooting with a dead device because I never plugged it into the outlet. FML

You are the reason that IT support will ask if the computer plugged in, as the first question. How does it feel to be the reason behind a new rule?

Just to be fair, I work in IT. Even we have idiot moments. I pride myself on being able to troubleshoot, but sometimes my own braincells take a vacation as I’ve had moments where “There’s no way I’d make as basic if a mistake as that…” and sure enough, I break some cardinal sin of my profession. It happens. Now what pisses off people like me, are those who weaponize idiocy. I can understand occasional lapses. It happens. But making me handhold over the littlest thing while refusing to try anything on their own is what makes me sometimes loathe my job. Did I mention i work in I.T. And not techsupport? FWIW, I’m a systems engineer now
