This is DEFINITELY an FML, since a) his mother can't set aside her issues for a few social engagements, and b) since he'll be stuck with both mom and MIL for the rest of their lives it's never going to get better. #57, not everyone rehearses weddings in America, nor is there anything fake about a rehearsal. It's more like an event where everyone figures out who's who and who does what, usually including a dinner where the parties involved get to know eachother. In most cases, the bridesmaids and groomsmen don't necessarily know eachother already and may not have met the couple's parents before, and in many cases the families of the bride and groom have not met before either.
